How filters work in sunset—

Any landscape photographers should prepare the basic conditions to catch the light of sunrise and sunset.Finally,you will find the basic conditions are filters.

Thanks for the testing chance provided by NiSi filter and I will share the shooting effect with the filters

Test1.

Theme: Reflected light

Surroundings: An hour before sunset, strong light background.

Testing filters:4stop reverse GND filter+polarizer

Effect: The foreground become bright with reverse GND filter,the polarizer eliminated water glare.

Test2.

Theme: slow shutter

Surroundings: Half an hour after sunset,lights up in the city.

Testing filters:4stop reverse GND filter.

Effect: Achieve shooting the moving clouds with slow shutter and doesn’t affect the white balance of image.

Test3.

Theme: Balance the light ratio between ground and sky.

Surroundings: Half an hour before sunset,bright sky without backlight directly.

Effect: The first image was shoot without filters so that the sky is too bright.The second image was also shoot without filters and tried to adjust the light of sky that cause the foreground too dark.Finally,as you can see,the reverse GND filter have solved the trouble.

Test4.

Theme: Color level

Surroundings: Half an hour after sunset,the sky is red.

Testing filters: 4stop reverse GND filter.

Effect:Because of the gradual change GND filter and made the color separate.

Test5.

Theme:Dynamic sunset

Surroundings:During the sunset,lavender.

Testing filters: 4stop reverse GND filter+10stop IR Nano ND filter.

Effect:If you want to catch the grand sky with the beautiful lavender that a GND filter will help you to solve the problem. The more interesting is that after 2 minutes of the sunset cloud with a 10stop IR Nano ND filter the color will be more vivid. It’s amazing that almost doesn’t affect the white balance of the image. It’s different with the big stopper of Lee.Lee will make the image be blue and can’t adjust the white balance but NiSi will not.

In the end,I will say the whole filter system is useful to help landscape photography. They are simple and comfortable especially when you both use filters with the polarizer.
